Happy New Year! The 2019 legislative session has begun and with each new beginning legislators have a new chance to make a difference for the people of our great state. My focus is to support and carry legislation that moves our state up and forward.
As chairman of the Senate Education Committee I will be advocating for legislation that supports our teachers, provides a top notch education and opportunities for our children, expands early childhood education, streamlines our higher education system, and provides the resources for teachers. Investments in education are investments in New Mexico’s future.
Supporting small businesses and ensuring all New Mexicans have an opportunity for economic prosperity is something I will champion. These opportunities may come through the use of tax credits, reforming of the tax code, expansion of liquor licenses tied to local revitalization efforts, and increasing the minimum wage for working families. I will work with our Work Force Solution Secretary, Bill McCamley, to implement and expand job training opportunities. A trained workforce supports economic growth and, healthcare, film, and renewable energy are areas where we can expand opportunities.
New Mexico should be a leader in the clean energy field and I will support initiatives that expand that industry. I will also support legislation that protects our environment, resources, and natural beauty.
This 2019 legislative session promises to be the most productive in my tenure. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has reached out to all members of the House and Senate to build the bridges necessary to ensure critical legislation is passed to move New Mexico forward. I ask that you keep in touch with me before, during and after the session. I care about what you think about the issues that affect your everyday life. You can reach me at 575-640-0409 (cell), at 505-986-4835 (legislative office) or at bill.soules@nmlegis.gov. I will post updates on Twitter (@SenatorSoules) and on Facebook (William Soules).
Thank you for the honor of serving as your State Senator.
